Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was raised and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam has been a previous backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years old, her father landed an appointment as the curator at Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the historical landmark. She was a graduate in 2005 of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus as a contralto, after which she was a part of the adult choir just a few years further on. Sullivan did not get exposed to secular music at first. "I started singing as a soloist in church, and somebody wanted me to sign up to record a gospel song at age 11. But I wasn't ready to take that step," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. It gave me the chance to sing Accept the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. My audiences were extremely accommodating." When she was 13 years old, she performed with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan was 15 when she began her career with Jive Records. In the age group of 15 She was signed by Jive Records. She recorded the entire album however it was never made available for release. Sullivan was eventually dropped out of the company. Her work had been in good connection along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced some of her tracks which included "Backstabbers" that was produced by Timbaland.
